Kids Say the Darndest Things….

So let me set this up for you: Caitlyn, Faith, and I went to Borders last night to buy my Barack Obama book I had ordered. We were standing at the counter and there was a biography about Barack Obama. Alrighty here we go…..are you ready….grab some popcorn…I’ll wait…………okay:

Caitlyn: (points to the words “Barack Obama” and reads it)

Me: “Yes! Very good! That does say Barack Obama.

Caitlyn: “He’s dead, right?”

Me: “NO! He’s our President! He’s not dead.

(Cashier is laughing)

Caitlyn: “But isn’t he the guy that someone shot because they didn’t like him?”

Me: “NO!” (Now I am embarrassed that my child thinks our president is dead)

Now we are walking out of the store and I ask her why she thought what she did.

Caitlyn: “My teacher told me that he was shot because someone didn’t like him”

This morning, I go to her teacher (who is on my team) and tell her the story. Apparently, Caitlyn got Martin Luther King and Barack Obama mixed up! This happened due to discussing Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and having the Inauguration all on the same day!
